So the other day a friend of mine and I were talking and he informed me that he recently purchased a case of water for 30 some dollars. "No way was a 24pk of water 30 some dollars!" was my reply. After doing a bit of digging, sure enough, 33 bucks for "Smart Water". (Are you kidding me?!) Well you know me, I have to know what is so good about this water.
So, today I decided to do my own little taste test experiment. Those of you who read my old blog may remember my diet soda test.. this is similar to that one.
I found a bottle of Smart Water and paid the $1.88 for a 1.5 liter bottle. That's not bad - might be cheaper just to buy 1.5L bottles if you really like the stuff, hah. I couldn't find any 20oz or I would have gone that route. They did have a pack of 10 20oz bottles for 20 some dollars though. But, nahhh.
Anyhow - I did my test with Aquafina, Smart Water and Nestle Pure Life.
When drank at room temperature I can very nearly see paying 30 bucks for a case of Smart Water. It had a cleaner, more "this is just water" taste when not refrigerated/iced than Aquafina or Nestle.
The Aquafina had a very flat, blugh warm water, taste.
The Nestle tasted horribly of chemicals when at room temp.
- For me, any water that isn't cold is pretty much gross. But it was a pretty easy choice to pick a winner from these three at a less than desirable temp.
When drank after refrigerated, however, things changed quite a bit. After refrigeration the Smart Water tastes almost exactly like the Aquafina did. The Nestle still had a processed taste to it that I really dislike. So, cold or room temp, Nestle just doesn't hold up for me.
When chilled, the Aquafina is very refreshing and "light on your tongue", zero aftertaste.
The Smart Water when chilled wasnt as refreshing but was still no where near bad. It did however have an aftertaste. Again not totally unpleasant but for me, water shouldn't leave a taste after the fact.
Scent of water?
Yes. I sniffed the water.
Nestle smells very chemically altered. Very treated.
Aquafina doesn't exactly have a smell other than "I'm in a plastic bottle". I like this.
Smart Water has a slightly treated scent coupled with the plastic bottle scent.
So, folks. As you can see.. I clearly lean more toward the Aquafina of these three choices.
Would I pay 30+ bucks for a 24pk of water? Doubtful. Especially not when there are other (better) alternatives.
Sorry!
--I should add, Smart Water is an "electrolyte enhanced water".
Aesthetically - I must say, the Smart Water does have a nicer look. I do like the Aquafina label as well, though. The Nestle label is way too cluttered for my liking.
